Dr. Diana Andriashek honoured as

2001 "Outstanding Physician of the Year"

Physicians in the Capital region have chosen an Edmonton Family Physician as the region's "Outstanding Physician of the Year" for 2001. Dr. Diana Andriashek, known fondly by her patients as "Dr. Diana," has served the people of Northeast Edmonton and Sherwood Park for 20 years. She works mainly in Capital Health's Eastwood Public Health Centre, where she serves as Coordinator of the Neurodevelopment Program for the Northeast Quadrant. She helps many people from disadvantaged families, especially children with learning difficulties and other neurodevelopmental problems.

"Diana Andriashek embodies the best of Family Medicine, and the practise of Medicine in general," said Dr. Darryl LaBuick, President of the Capital Region Medical Staff Association, which presents the award each year. "She works in partnership with families to help them build a better quality of life, in a part of our community where the burden of health problems is especially heavy. She works in an innovative partnership with the health system, as well as with schools and community groups, to make her whole community a better place to live. And she works with no expectation of recognition, which only makes it more of a pleasure to give her this award, which she so richly deserves."
