Welcome to the Capital Region Medical Staff Association site.  The Capital Region Medical Staff Association represents all physicians working in the Capital Region (Region 6), including both physicians with hospital privileges and those working in the community. Oral surgeons and clinical doctoral laboratory scientists are also represented by the Association.

CRMSA is led by a Council comprised of representatives of:

  • the Medical Staff Associations (usually the President) of all hospitals in the region;
  • physicians working in long term care and community mental health;
  • community physician representatives elected by a ballot of community physicians;
  • clinical doctoral research scientists and oral surgeons.
  • the Faculty of Medicine, Alberta Medical Association, the Professional Association of Residents of Alberta and the Medical Student's Association
  • rural representation

Council meets monthly and the Association has two annual general meetings on  in May and in November of each year. Any member of the medical staff can bring forward concerns to council to any member of the executive, through the president or representative of their site medical staff association, or to any other member of Council.

The council and executive represent physicians at a number of forums in the region. These include Capital Health Authority Board and Executive, Regional Medical Advisory Committee, Physician’s Liaison Committee (meeting between CRMSA Executive and CH Board) and President's Council. CRMSA also meets with the Minister of Health and Deputy Minister of Health to ensure they are kept informed of physicians' concerns in the Capital Region.

The Association carries out an annual Physician Access Survey which identifies continued problems with timely patient access to consultations from specialists, to investigations (CT, MRI) and to surgical procedures.

On the lighter side, the Association assists with organizing the annual Capital Region Medical Staff Association  Golf Tournament (Academy of Medicine Golf Tournament), supports the Edmonton Doctor's Curling League and hosts the Annual Awards Banquet where the Physician of the Year and Researcher of the Year Awards are presented.

I hope that you will support the activities of the Association, which ensures a strong voice for physicians to advocate for patient care and deal with the concerns of medical staff in providing that care.

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mark Joffe
President
